Timeline of PASS-SIG Events

1990

The Beginning

PASS-SIG, formally Schizophrenia Interest Group, was founded by Robert Heinssen, Ph.D.

The First Meeting

About 18 members met for the first time including schizophrenia luminaries such as Alan Bellack, Ph.D., Kim Mueser, Ph.D., Pat Corrigan, Ph.D., Robert Liberman, M.D., Gordon Paul, Ph.D., Keith Nuechterlein, Ph.D., Shirley Glynn, Ph.D., and David Miklowitz, Ph.D.

Early Meetings

Early SIG Meetings still included a business meeting and scientific portion, which included presentations from Will Spaulding, Ph.D., Jill Hooley, Ph.D., Susan Gingerich, M.S.W., Til Wykes, Ph.D., and Alice Medalia, Ph.D.

Dues

The SIG first agreed to collect yearly dues from full members in order to establish student research award.

1995
1996

Expanding Our Reach

An online electronic forum and listserv developed first by Dorie Reed, and later updated by Paul Stuve, Jason Vogler, and Jen Snyder.

Website

The website was first developed by Paul Stuve and Jason Vogler during their tenures as Leaders.

Early 2000’s
2004

Trailblazer Award

The trailblazer award was agreed upon and established.

First Trailblazer Winner

The first trailblazer winner was announced (Dr. Alan Bellack). See Trailblazer tab for additional winners.

2005

SIG Name Change

As members joined and interests within the group expanded, the SIG name was changed from Schizophrenia Special Interest Group to Schizophrenia and Other Mental Disorders SIG.

2nd SIG Name Change

To align with new research wording and capture the variety of disorders that fall under the schizophrenia spectrum, the SIG’s name was changed to Psychosis and Schizophrenia Spectrum SIG.

2019
2019-2020

Current Website

Headstarted during his tenure, Dr Jerome Yoman implemented the idea of creating an independent website for PASS-SIG. Dr. Charlie Davidson continued these efforts.
